Virginia M. (Patocka) Markham, age 93 of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
Virginia was born on December 22, 1930, in Hennessey, OK to Anton and Mary (Severin) Patocka. She grew up on the family farm and attended Hennessey Schools. She married Francis Markham on June 3, 1961, in Enid, Oklahoma, ultimately living in Menomonie while raising two sons. Virginia worked for many years as a childcare provider but was a primarily a homemaker.
When able, Virginia enjoyed walking and talking with the neighbors, and watching the birds on her feeder. In the past few years while at her assisted living home, she loved to participate in the twice a week bingo games, where she would proudly update the family on how many times she won.
Virginia will be remembered as an outgoing, kindhearted person who loved to chat with others, given the opportunity. She also had a knack for remembering birthdays no matter how old or young. Most of all she will be remembered as a caring mom who loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Now it is her time to rest and enjoy the glory of our God.
Virginia is survived by sons, Charles (MaryAnn) and Roger; three grandchildren, Laura (Louis) Swenson, Joshua (Kelsey)Markham, and Marissa Markham; six great-grandchildren, Zoey, Felicity, and Felix (Swenson); Arlo, Theia and Elowen(Markham); and one sister, Velma Ayers.
She is preceded in death by her husband Francis of 59 years, her parents Anton and Mary; brothers Vincent and Ervin; and sisters Wilma and Marie.
The family would like to send a special thank you Care Partners and the staff. The kindness and care provided to mom will always be appreciated.
We also would like to thank Maria, Christine, and Jamie at Preceptor Home Health & Hospice for their exceptional work.
