Virginia Pershing Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Memorial Chapel of Richland on Oct. 6, 2025.
Virginia Lorrainne Pershing was born on September 1, 1944, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was the daughter of the late George William Shepard and Myrtis Estell (Richman) Shepard. Her upbringing in New Mexico was shaped by the strong values instilled by her parents.
On June 13, 1966, Virginia married John Pershing. Together, they built a loving home and were blessed with four children: William, David, Johanna, and Jennifer. Their marriage was marked by many wonderful years, filled with devotion to family and strong bonds.
Virginia furthered her education after high school, earning her R.N. degree. Though she worked as a registered nurse, much of her life was dedicated to raising her family. For 13 years, Virginia worked in the nursery at Gila Regional Medical Center, caring for newborn babies. Later, she moved to Missouri to be closer to her grandchildren, where she briefly worked in home health care. Persistent back issues led her to go on disability, after which she focused on caring for her husband and helping with her grandchildren.
In her leisure time, Virginia enjoyed sewing and creating things with her hands. She was an avid reader and passed her love of books to her children and grandchildren. Her holiday baking, especially her famous pumpkin bread, was cherished by friends and family.
Virginia Lorrainne Pershing passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the Lebanon North Nursing & Rehab in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of 81. She is deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Virginia leaves behind three children: David Pershing (Gayle) of Laquey, MO; Johanna Pershing of Lebanon, MO; and Jennifer Pershing of Richland, MO. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Alex Pershing of Michigan City, IN; Jesse Pershing of Jefferson City, MO; Cole Pershing of Laquey, MO; Justin Pershing (Carly) of Chesapeake, VA; and Annelyse Schultz (Daniel) of Springfield, MO. In addition, she is remembered by several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John Pershing, her oldest son William, and her infant granddaughter Rebecca. Although she is no longer with us, Virginia's caring spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Graveside services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2025 in the Oaklawn Cemetery of Richland, MO withe Pastor Matt Brady officiating. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
