Virginia M. Schiffer Ralston, age 84, resident of Lee Street, Shelby died Tuesday, August 3, 2010 in Crestwood Care Center following an extended illness.

Born August 7, 1925 in Shelby to Elva and Marie (Phelps) Foreman, she had been a lifelong Shelby resident. Virginia was self-employed as a Home Health Care aide for many years. A member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, she was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include one daughter, Denise Carroll of Shelby; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Charles Franks of Ft. Myers, Florida and Tom and Cathy Takos of Shelby; 15 grandchildren, including Charles Bowman of Shelby, whom she raised; numerous great-grandchildren; a special foster daughter, Michelle "Sam" Snodgrass of Cardington; one brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Ruth Foreman of Mansfield; nieces nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Franks, second husband, Harold Ralston, and one sister, Eleanor Louise Foreman.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, August 7, 2010 from the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby with Reverend Eddie Douglas officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorial expressions may be made to the Crestwood Care Center Activities Fund.
