Virginia “Ginny” Martin Robertson of Little Rock died Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at Presbyterian Village. She was born to Charley and Wiebrie Martin of Rogers in 1926. She loved growing up in Rogers and had fond memories of an idyllic life there with her sister Norma.
After graduating from Rogers High School in 1944, Ginny enrolled at the University of Arkansas. Working her way through, she enjoyed her time at the UofA earning a Bachelors of Education in 1950. She soon began her teaching career at Oakhurst Elementary in Little Rock. In 1955 she married Art Robertson and a few years later took a break from her career to start a family. Ginny and Art celebrated 57 years together before his death.
When her son and daughter started school Ginny returned to teaching. She returned to a another classroom as well, earning a Masters in Early Childhood Education from UCA in 1975. She continued teaching kindergarten until her retirement in 1989.
Ginny loved the arts almost as much as she loved being a teacher. After retirement she spent many years volunteering and teaching ESL at Friendship International where she made many friends. She also volunteered with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Guild, the Opera Guild, and Wildwood.
On the advice of her doctor, Ginny began swimming in 1978 to alleviate back pain. It grew into a passion and she swam almost daily for the next 40 years, becoming a fixture at the pool. In 1986 she set a goal to swim a mile a day. She ended up swimming 376 miles. Ginny was a long time member of Grace Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her son, Scott Robertson; her daughter, Ginny and son-in-law George Kobe. She dearly loved her four grandchildren; Matt, Molly, Kristen, and Kimmery. She treasured her three great-granddaughters; Lili, Uma, and Madi; and 2 great-grandsons; Beau and Micah.
Memorials can be made to Grace Presbyterian Church or Presbyterian Village.
