Virginia "Ginger" Catherine Roberts was born on November 5, 1949, to Pete and Ginny Gathings in Fort Worth, Texas. Ginger stamped her passport early as she lived in Africa, Australia, and Singapore in her formative years. She graduated nursing school in 1980 while raising her two young daughters, Jennifer and Julie. Settling in central Oklahoma, Ginger devoted her career to helping others as a nurse, from the hospital setting to private practice to collegiate research. She spent her spare time volunteering at Mercy hospital and at the local police station, reading, playing cards, attending plays, watching the OU Sooners play and enjoying her four grandchildren.

Ginger is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Roberts of Edmond, Oklahoma; her daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Chris Thurmond of Overland Park, Kansas. Grandchildren Emma Thurmond, Jake Thurmond, Olivia Thurmond and Ben Thurmond of Overland Park, Kansas. Siblings, Penny McEntire of Anchorage, Alaska, Michael Gathings of Houston, Texas and Susan Craig of Chico, California. Ginger also leaves behind nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers who will miss her quiet yet spunky spirit.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer's Association in her name.
