Virginia Saling Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Torkelson-Page-Smith Funeral Home of Sparta on Mar. 26, 2026.
Virginia A. Saling, 70, of Sparta, WI, was called home on March 25, 2026, while surrounded by the warmth of her home in Sparta, WI. Born on October 11, 1955, in the Philippines, to Alberto and Miguela (Cabarles) Avila, Virginia's life was a tapestry of joy, faith, with a dash of competitive spirit.

Virginia's journey began in the vibrant landscapes of the Philippines. It was there that she met a dashing serviceman named Paul Saling. It wasn't long before Virginia and Paul realized they were meant to be, and they sealed their love in matrimony on May 28, 1981. Together, they embarked on a life filled with devotion, laughter, and the occasional friendly debate over who was the better game player.

For many years, Virginia dedicated her talents to Northern Engraving, where she served as an inspector on the factory line.

Virginia could indeed cook anything, and her son often joked that she could make dirt taste like a delicacy. Her legendary Sunday Rice was a testament to her culinary expertise, a dish that brought family and friends to the table. Her devotion to her Catholic faith was as integral to her being as her love for her family.

Virginia's love for games was as legendary as her cooking. Whether bowling strikes or hitting the bullseye in darts, she was a force to be reckoned with. Her competitive spirit was always in good fun, though, and her infectious laughter would fill the room, even as she claimed victory time and again. Virginia wasn't just an avid card player-she was downright passionate about it. Nothing delighted her more than gathering around the table to play poker with her girlfriends.

Virginia is survived by her husband Paul; children, Virra (Rick) Saling-Pletz, James (Christina) Saling and Alex (Hayley Haupricht) Saling; grandchildren, Shannon (Austin) Pfiefer, Sean Kedra, Sabrina (fiancé Britton) Kedra, Stacey and Samuel Kedra, Kiara, Camden and Kannon Saling; one brother, Jesus Avila; along with other relatives and friends.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson Kannon Saling; and six siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2026, 2:00 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Sparta, WI. Father Eric Berns will officiate. Family and friends are invited for visitation Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church.
