Duane Jacob Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Torkelson-Page-Smith Funeral Home of Sparta on Feb. 11, 2026.
Duane "Jake" A. Jacob, passed peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the age of 82 at the Morrow Home in Sparta surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born on March 16, 1943, to Alvin and Geraldine (Linenberg) Jacob in Tomah. His lifelong sweetheart, Jean Hoag, captured his heart, and they were united in marriage on September 15, 1962. Together, they built a family founded on love and care, raising 4 children who enhanced the world around them.

A man of many talents and interests, Jake was the manager at the 7-Up Bottling Company in both Tomah and Janesville, a position that showcased his natural leadership and kindhearted nature. Jake took pride in being a life member of the Wisconsin Bowhunters Association, where he engaged in both bow hunting and target archery. His deep passion for the universe and stargazing shaped his life as an amateur astronomer. He found great joy in sharing his knowledge of the stars-particularly with children, through the Wisconsin DNR at various state parks-teaching them to see and appreciate the beauty and vastness of space. His intricate model railroads reflected his remarkable patience and keen attention to detail, and he was especially proud of his immaculate lawn, tending it with the same care and patience as his model railroads!

Above all, to know Jake was to know his generous heart and love for his family. He leaves behind countless memories of laughter and a sense that everyone in his presence mattered. His knack for making people feel appreciated will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean; his children, Curt (Melissa) of Tomah, Greg (Rachel) of Janesville, Trisha (Peter) Neuser of Eau Claire, and Hal (Mary Beth) of Tomah; his nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his siblings, Gerald (Missy) of Millston, Ken (Donna) of Fox Lake, Jim (Kris) of Tomah, and Patricia (Don) Pierce of Tomah; along with his sister-in-law, Kay Jacob of Tomah.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Thomas; his infant brother, Stephen; and his granddaughter Emma, who no doubt welcomed him with open arms.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at Queen of the Apostles Parish in Tomah. Father Ethan Hokamp will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends are invited for a visitation on Sunday, February 15, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah, as well as on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The Torkelson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be offered at www.torkelsonfuneralhome.com
