Eunice L. Jessen

Eunice L. Jessen (nee Newlun), 97, of Tomah, died on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Rolling Hills in Sparta, Wisconsin.

She was born on a farm in rural Wisconsin. Through most of her early life, she lived without electricity, telephone or indoor plumbing. She was the daughter of Albert and Erma Newlun. Eunice had 6 siblings; 3 brothers and 3 sisters. All but one have preceded her in death. Her sister, Joyce, currently lives in Virginia. She was also preceded in death by her husband of over 70 years, LeRoy.

Eunice was always a hard worker. In her younger years, she worked on the farm. After high school, she attended Juneau County Normal School and then taught children in a one room school in rural Tomah. She married LeRoy Jessen in 1949 and had their first daughter, Susan soon thereafter. She was followed by a second daughter, Sandra a few years later. During her life, Eunice taught school at St. Marcus Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, where she taught kindergarten. After moving to Tomah, Eunice worked at Band Box Laundry and later at Van Pak Plastic Factory until retirement. She was an accomplished gardener, cook and baker. She home canned fruits and vegetables well into her 80's. She loved to do crafts including ceramics, knitting, crocheting, sewing quilts and clothing as well as painting.

She leaves behind her 2 daughters; 3 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and godchildren. She will be deeply missed.

Eunice's family firmly believes she is now together with her Savior, Jesus, and all believers who have gone before her.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 16, 2025, 11:00 AM at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, 525 Superior Ave. Tomah. Pastor Mark Kahrs will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited for a time of visitation on Monday at the church, 10:00 AM until the time of service. Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home is assisting the family.
