William Koopman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home - Tomah on Feb. 13, 2026.
William F. Koopman, Jr, 85 of Camp Douglas passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the Serenity House, Tomah. He was born on October 31, 1940, to William F. Koopman, Sr. and Elsie E. Deutrich in Bells Coulee, La Crosse County.

William graduated from Melrose Mindoro High School and soon after proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, dedicating himself to serving his country. He later married his high school sweetheart, Lola Towne, and together they welcomed two daughters, Tena and Lisa.

For 13 years, William worked at Northern Engraving as a foreman in the Tool and Die department. He eventually relocated to Rockford, Illinois, where he continued his career at Rockford Tool and Die until retiring at age 67. During his years in Rockford, he met his second wife, Delores Woodard, who preceded him in death.

An avid outdoorsman, William found joy in deer hunting and cherished the crisp air of opening day. He loved to travel, and his adventures to Hawaii, Alaska, and the Panama Canal remained among his most treasured memories. Those who knew him appreciated his dry sense of humor-his playful references to "Las Wages" were just one example of his wit.

William was hardworking, humble, and uncomplicated. He found happiness in life's simple pleasures: a beautiful sunset, the quiet of the outdoors, and sharing laughter with his girls. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his humor, and the love he carried for his family.

He is survived by his children, Tena Hammond of Camp Douglas and Lisa Koopman of New Lisbon; former spouse, Lola Heinz of New Lisbon; his beloved four-legged grand dog, Sonny, siblings, Verna Mashin of Bulgaria, Ed (Linda) Koopman, of Ettrick, and Ron (Mary) Koopman of Verona.

He was preceded in death by his parents; spouse, Delores; siblings, George, Naomi, and Jane

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
