Virginia Ann Scarpato, age 89 of Waitsfield, Vermont, (formerly of Lynbrook, NY) passed away suddenly on December 12, 2024 at her home. Virginia was born in Brooklyn, NY, the only child of Louis and Antoinette DeCastro. She was married to the love of her life, Eugene, for 64 years, until his passing in 2020.Together they had five children: Linda (Bill) Place, Sue (Ed) Austin, Eugene, Donald (Kathy), and Denise (Michael) Zervoudis and ten grandchildren: Brian, Brandon, Cecile (Joe), William (Taylor), Gabrielle (Kyle), Dylan (Tatum), Matthew, Kristina, Anthony and Nicholas.
She attended Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset, NY and Catherine McAuley High School in Brooklyn, NY. After raising five children she earned an Associates Degree from Nassau Community College and a Bachelor Degree in Art History from Queens College.
Virginia had many interests in her life. She loved the arts and as the first lady of Lynbrook, organized concerts and art exhibits during her late husband's mayoral tenure. She was an avid gardener and incorporated beautiful color, textures and perennial varieties in all of her gardens. She loved to bake cookies; especially Italian rainbow cookies. She always prepared her meals from scratch. She was an avid reader and loved to attend cultural events.
Virginia and Gene moved to Waitsfield, VT in the fall of 2008. She became very active in this community. She volunteered with Meals On Wheels, the Waitsfield Library, the Waitsfield Senior Citizens Center, the Mad River Valley Interfaith Council and was a lector at Our Lady of the Snows.
Family and friendship were very important to Virginia. She enjoyed entertaining and celebrating the holidays and special events in her home. During these events one could witness Virginia's generosity, kindness and commitment to her family and friends.
She will be greatly missed.

A service is planned for Thursday, December 26 at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of the Snows 6305 Main Street Waitsfield, Vermont.
