Virginia Sheppard Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lewis Funeral Home - Moorestown on Aug. 17, 2024.
Virginia Belle Sheppard, 95, died on August 16, 2024 at her residence in the Evergreens, Moorestown, NJ. A native of the Pittsburgh area, Virginia met the love of her life, the late William H. Sheppard, at Kennywood Park. They enjoyed more than 50 years of married life before his passing in 2004. Also passing away before her were her parents, Laura Belle and Michael Bretsnyder, brother Robert Bretsnyder (Elva), and sister Joanne Polacok (John).
Cherishing her memory are her four devoted children: Patty Sheppard Franz (Bill), William Sheppard, Jr. (Michele), Chuck Sheppard (Diane), and Laurie Sheppard Conrad (Michael); twelve grandchildren: Matthew Franz (Hannah), Elizabeth Franz Campus (Thomas), Jackson Sheppard, Timothy Sheppard (Rachel), Nathan Sheppard (Taylor), Rachel Sheppard Helt (Andrew), Joyce Conrad, Benjamin Conrad, Joshua Conrad, Christopher Conrad, Joseph Conrad, and Abigail Conrad; a host of nieces and nephews, and an ever-growing number of great grandchildren. She always found babies to be the cutest, and one of her last joys was holding her newest great granddaughter just a few weeks before her death.
Virginia was a 1951 graduate of Westminster College in Pennsylvania where she was a sister of the Kappa Delta sorority. She went on to earn a Master's degree in Christian Education from Princeton Theological Seminary and then worked as the director of Christian Education at St. Matthew Lutheran Church where she was a long-time member. She was a deacon in the New Jersey synod of the ELCA.
She was a talented quilter and enjoyed creating beautiful works for her family and friends. She enjoyed playing bridge and traveling, especially time spent at Ocean City, NJ.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 am on Friday, August 23, 2024 at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 318 Chester Ave. Moorestown, NJ. Viewing will be held from 9:30- 10:30 am on Friday at the Church. With
Interment to follow in Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, NJ
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the accessibility project at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, C/o the Church.

Virginia and I were members of the Moorestown Area Quilters together for many years. She made many lovely quilts, arranged for summer quilting bees at her church, and coordinated the guild community service project that provided quilts for the children at the Florence Klemmer House in Mt. Laurel. She was a natural teacher and generously shared her expertise with our guild. She stayed connected to the guild even as it became more difficult for her to attend our evening meetings. She was loved and will be missed by us all. Sue M.
