Born Virginia Marie Martin on August 9, 1930 in Marshalltown, the daughter of Howard and Phoebe (Knight) Martin. She graduated from Whitten High School in the Class of 1948.
During her youth she enjoyed riding horses, playing basketball and was highly involved in 4H where she showed Brown Swiss Cattle. In high school she was named Carnival Queen and met her future husband.
On October 8, 1950, Virginia was united in marriage with the love of her life, Clarence Veld, at her parents' home in Iowa Falls. They were blessed with 65 years of marriage and a beautiful family that will cherish their memories.
Virginia worked for Marshalltown Public Schools for 25 years, until her retirement. Following her retirement, she kept herself young by working part-time at the Elim Lutheran Church Daycare.
Virginia was an active member of First Friends Church in Marshalltown, where she played the organ for services. She also spent many years teaching Sunday School. The joy of her life was being supportive of her kids and grandkids in all their activities. She and Clarence would attend as many events as possible. They would take them to parades, and she loved baking with the grandkids by her side. She also enjoyed visiting with friends, going out to dinner and took many train trips.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents Howard and Phoebe; her husband, Clarence; her son, Daryl; great-granddaughter, Kenna Steffan; and her brother, Roland "Bud" Martin.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, David (Faith) Veld of LeGrand and Becky (Mark) Steffan of Pipestone, MN; daughter-in-law, Robin Veld of Mingo; grandchildren and their families – Angie (Aaron) Polley with Kalyn and Hunter; Brandon (Emma) Veld with Peyton and Brooklyn; Seth (Hiliary) Veld; Sean Veld; Cami (Kevin) McCallum with Ava, Elodie, Brooklee and Andrew; John (Jaci) Steffan with Jayden, Kinsley, Jaxon and Kyla; Mike (Elizabeth) Steffan with Eli, Leah and Briggs; Abby (Brad) Gingles with Cooper. Along with grandchildren from her daughter-in-law Faith – Aaron (Katie) Buffington with Liam and Elena; and Tara Brown.
