Virginia Wood Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 18, 2025.
Virginia Ruth Freeman Wood, lovingly known as "Sally," passed away on November 13, 2025, at the age of 81. Born in Haskell, Texas, she made her home in Terrell, Texas, where she built a life marked by strength, resilience, and unwavering love for her family.

Sally was strong-willed and direct, the kind of woman who told the truth plainly and stood firmly for the people she loved. Her toughness was earned through the adventure and challenge of raising four boys, and it was matched by her devotion to her family. Beneath her no-nonsense exterior was a loving heart that cared deeply for every member of her large and growing family.

Sally married Buddy on April 21, 1962. In 1964, the couple moved to South Carolina, where they began raising their family. She devoted those early years to being a full-time mother, pouring her time and energy into her children until Mitchell entered school. In 1986, she returned to Texas and began a career with Boeing Electronics, continuing on after the company's transition to BAE Systems, where she eventually retired. Throughout her life, Sally remained grounded in her faith, her family, and the steady routines she built for herself.

She found comfort in the simple things, watching Gunsmoke, reading her Bible, and making regular trips to the farmers market. These quiet routines brought her peace and reflected the values she held close.

Sally is survived by her children Preston, Wesley, and Mitchell, and his wife Kristin; her siblings Betty McGee, Joe Freeman, and Doris Ledbetter; her grandchildren Ashley, Aaron, Amanda, Haruki, Jordan, Michiyo, Joji, Sydney, Archer, and Bonham; and numerous great-grandchildren who adored her.

She is preceded in death by her husband Buddy, her son Chris, her grandson Brandon, her parents Felt and Doris Freeman, and her siblings Norma Jean, Bobby, Jack, and Kenneth.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Troy Suggs Funeral Home, located at 7623 Military Parkway, Dallas, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21, at the same location. Her son Wesley will officiate the service.

Burial will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery, 4118 Samuell Boulevard, Dallas, Texas.

Sally leaves behind a legacy of grit, loyalty, and love. Tough as nails but tender at her core, she was the steadfast center of her family, and her presence will be deeply missed. Her strength, honesty, and devotion will continue to live on in all who loved her.
