Vito Bettua Obituary

Vito Bettua
September 13, 2025
Vito Bettua, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in Florida on September 13, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on July 10, 1936, in Bristol, Connecticut, he was the son of the late John and Palma (Susca) Bettua.
Vito was a proud member of the United States Air Force for 20 years, where he served his country honorably before retiring in 1973. Following his military service, he devoted a significant portion of his working life to the United States Postal Service. He served as a postal carrier and later as a supervisor, roles in which he was known for his commitment, reliability, and genuine kindness toward others.
In addition to his service, Vito was a longtime member of the Elk's Club and a devoted usher at Saint David's Church in Davie, Florida. He found joy in the simple pleasures in life; walking, swimming, watching football, and, most of all, spending time with his family.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Susan (Bergman) Bettua, who resides in Davie, FL. Vito is survived by his devoted children: his daughter, Jill Bettua of Barkhamsted, CT; and his sons, John Bettua of Tampa, FL; Scott Bettua of Ledyard, CT; Richard Bettua of New South Wales, Australia; and Seth Berkowitz of Marriott Island, FL and his sister, Annie McCooey, who resides in Bristol, CT.
Vito's legacy is further enriched by the memories of his parents and his siblings, each of whom have passed: his brother, Anthony Bettua; and sisters, Mary Bruni, Pauline Baron, Jennie Sileo, Angela Matheson, and Rose Konopaske.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St. in Torrington, CT to St. Peter Church (St. John Paul the Great Parish), 99 East Main St., Torrington at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery, Torrington with full military honors accorded. Relatives and friends may call on Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
