Vivian Orr Cameron of Decatur, GA passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on September 27, 2025. Vivian was born and raised in Dalton, GA to parents Luther S. Orr, Sr and Flossie M. Orr (née Roach). She attended Dalton High School and graduated with a Bachelor's degree from LaGrange College. After graduation, she first worked as a 5th grade teacher at Valley Point school in Whitfield County, then subsequently in Marietta, GA where she met her husband Neil of more than 52 years. After moving to Decatur, GA where she raised a family, she later continued her teaching aspirations at Dresden Elementary School in DeKalb County as a classroom assistant.
Vivian was a devoted wife, mother, and teacher, not only to students in public schools, but also to children in Sunday schools. Although raised in the Methodist church, she was a long-time member of the Druid Hills Baptist Church in Atlanta and then the Briarlake Baptist Church in Decatur, where she made many lasting friendships, sang in choirs, and played the piano. She was fortunate to have traveled the US and the world extensively, including international mission trips to Guatemala and S. Korea. She especially enjoyed entertaining and baking for others at home, researching family history, and unceasingly undertaking arts and crafts projects, especially sewing & quilting.
She was preceded in death by her husband Neil S. Cameron, Jr., her parents Luther and Flossie, and brother L.S. Orr, Jr. all of Dalton, GA. She is survived by her children Gerald N. Cameron of Alexandria, VA and Sherri E. Cameron of Decatur, and nephews Richard Orr (Karen) of Atlanta and Mark Orr (Laura) of Dalton, as well multiple cousins.
Services will be held at Briarlake Baptist Church chapel on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, 3000 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker, GA.
