Funeral services for Vivian Nichols, age 89, of Reeder, ND, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 28, 2013 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Reeder, ND. Pastor Ted and Pastor Susan Huffman will officiate with burial to follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery south of Reeder. Vivian "Sis" Nichols passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Fountain Springs Healthcare in Rapid City, SD. Vivian was born in Reeder, ND on June 19, 1924, to the late Jake and Gertrude (Howe) Anderson. She graduated from Reeder High School in 1942. Vivian was united in marriage to Elwyn Madison Nichols on April 8, 1946. Known as "Sis" to family and friends, Vivian spent most of her life in service to the community of Reeder including operating as the town grocer much of her life. During World War II she worked for Boeing Aircraft and returned to Reeder where she taught at a rural school for a couple of years. She was an active member of the Congregational Church until her passing. Vivian was a rich historian for the area, providing both written and verbal testimonies of the events that shaped the small towns of Adams County. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend committed to leaving a rich legacy for all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Elwyn Nichols, Reeder, ND; one son, Barney Nichols, Reeder, ND; two daughters, Liane (Jerome) Braun, Jamestown, ND and Myra (Pete) Kvanvig, Stockdale, TX; one daughter-in-law, Colleen (Michael) Brandt, Rapid City, SD; eight grandchildren, Dalos (Robin) Kvanvig, Thad (Jamey) Kvanvig, Doug Kvanvig, Tara (Joaquin) Garza, Michael (Lynnae) Braun, Jason (Meghan) Braun, Brittany (Josh) Anderson and Chet (Jen) Nichols; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Terry Anderson, Dickinson, ND and Larry Dean (Loretta) Anderson, Reeder, ND; two sisters, Pet Nichols, La Crescent, MN and Dolly Carr, Savage, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Alan "Punk" Nichols; and two brothers, Jip Anderson and Buzzy Anderson. A gathering of family and friends will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Reeder, ND.
