Vivian D. Perry

Vivian Delores Perry graced the world with her presence on September 28, 1939. She was the third of six children born to the late Lucille Yarborough Perry and the late Samuel Perry in the small town of Kittrell, North Carolina.

In her twenties she was part of the Great Migration leaving Kittrell for Chester, Pennsylvania determined to reach her financial goals. She overcame numerous hurdles faced by African American women in her day and time. Vivian was brave, bold, outspoken, and hard working. She walked many paths in her professional life. She cared for private duty clients as a certified nurse aide alongside her beloved sister Louise for many years at the former Martin's Run, an assisted living facility in Media, Pennsylvania; the compassionate care she provided was unmatched. She assured the safety of Chester's youth and the great minds of tomorrow while on duty as a crossing guard for the Chester Upland School District. She was also an empathetic landlord and ran a successful grocery store providing resources to the Chester community as well as a place to create memories.

Vivian opened her home and extended her hospitality to many in need. She was a pillar to several generations at their most vulnerable moments in life. She was there to give an ear and lend a helping hand. One of her favorite past times was shopping at her favorite stores Boscov's and Booth's Corner. She loved hosting fish fries and baking bean pies. Healthy eating was a top priority for her. She loved string beans and asparagus steamed to perfection with a touch of extra virgin olive oil. Vivian lived to laugh, have a good conversation, go on social outings, and spend quality time on her porch and in her yard with family and friends. Vivian was a "Sister, Friend, Aunt, Everything to Everybody."

Vivian transitioned from this life and onto her next journey on September 22, 2025, at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lucille Yarborough Perry; father, Samuel Perry; sister, Louise Perry, and her brothers Stanley Perry, Samuel Perry Jr., and William Perry. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, Michael V. Montgomery (Dinichia Montgomery); her youngest brother, Kemp Perry (Andrea Perry); her close friends Sister Eudora Muhammad, Sister Sherrice Muhammad, and Gabe Ingram; as well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.
