Dooley Funeral Home - AntwerpVivian I. King Schilb, 99, of Fort Wayne, formerly of Antwerp, passed away Monday, November 17, 2025 at her home.
Vivian was born on the family farm near Payne Ohio on August 8, 1926 to Charles & Stella (Cox) King. She attended the Payne public school, where one of her favorite activities was playing her baritone in the band. During her high school years her church, Saint Jacobs, sponsored a radio program “the Chimes Hour” where she was the pianist of the group. After graduation from Payne high school in 1944, she enjoyed being employed at Westinghouse radio station for three years. On September 1, 1946 she married Paul Richard Schilb. They were happily married for 64 1/3 years until his passing on December 31, 2010. They were parents of two children Rick and Janese. She became a stay at home mom for 10 years. She then went to work as secretary at Antwerp local schools for 12 years, retiring from the offices of BF Goodrich with 22 years of service. During these years her memberships included Fin de Sicle literary club, Tuesday readers, creative crafters, 74 year member of order of the eastern star where she served her Hope chapter Antwerp as their worthy matron in 1959. She was also a church organist for 65 years. Most recently she attended Trinity English Lutheran Church and enjoyed membership in their Mary Martha Circle. She and Dick enjoyed entertaining family and friends at their cottage on Hamilton Lake. She was a lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Reds and she and Dick spent many hours enjoying spring training camp in Florida. She also enjoyed the Bengals and IU basketball.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Janese Schilb; daughter-in-law, Peg Schilb; grandchildren, Derreck (Stacey), Aaron (Ashley), Mikael (Meredith), Andrew, Kimberly (Jason) & 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles & Stella King; husband, Dick Schilb; son, Rick Schilb; & sisters, Velma (Mel) and Mary (Dick).
Her service is Saturday, December 6th at 10:30 AM with visitation one hour prior at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp.
She will be laid to rest in Maumee Cemetery on a later date.
Vivian's generosity and selflessness will live on through her anatomical donation to Ohio University, Athens.
Memorials are to Miss Virginia's Food Pantry or Shriners Children's Hospital.
