Vivian Bernice Zimmerman was born August 19, 1943, in Burnstad, ND, to Albert B. and Bernice Sayler. Vivian attended country school and then later Wishek High School. Following high school, she attended North Dakota State College of Science where she obtained her LPN nursing degree and was employed as a nurse until her retirement. October 21, 1962, Vivian was united in marriage to Earl Zimmerman. Together they had 7 children.
Vivian was always putting everyone else before herself in every aspect of her life. Vivian loved God, her family and friends, and her dog (Snoopy). She cherished attending bible study and would attend more than one bible study each week. Vivian trusted God's Plan throughout.
Vivian enjoyed attending her grandkids activities, fishing, bird watching, gardening, playing piano, reading, and collecting rocks. If a rock was shiny... she just had to have it. Vivian loved to eat! Fine dining was any restaurant that served soup and mashed potatoes. Vivian never learned how to read piano music but played by ear and enjoyed playing for others. Vivian never wanted to miss a beat with her family. No matter how tired or how long her day had been, she didn't want to miss out on family time. She'd stay up all hours of the night to play games, chatting or watching movies. She'd always said "I'm listening" when asked if she was asleep!
Vivian was known to be a stinker and liked to eat and do things she wasn't supposed to do. She was quiet, yet witty and could pull a prank. Vivian was known to sneak sweets, feed Snoopy under the table, drive her car without a license and NEVER throw ANYTHING away. Despite her shenanigans, she was loved by all who knew her.
Vivian died at her home in Chokio on Sunday, March 3, 2024. She was 80 years old.
Vivian is survived by her children: Deb (Jim) Hagerott of Jamestown, ND, Michael (Perihan) Zimmerman of Jamestown, ND, Mark (Lana) Zimmerman of Peyton, CO, Daniel (Lori) Zimmerman of Badenton, FL, Sheri (Brandon) Engleking of Aberdeen, SD, and Kim Marty of Chokio; 10 grandchildren: Stephanie Zimmerman, Allison (Joseph) Cardenas, Alex Zimmerman, Austin Hagerott, Jaclyn (Raiden) Iverson, Brenden (special friend, Kenzie) Hardy, Brayden Engleking, Camden Engleking, Bryce Hardy, and Maria Zimmerman; sisters: Jeanette Schlenker of Vadnais Heights, and Lynette Huisinga of Smithville, MO; and sister-in-law: Ramona Heupel of Champlin.
