W. Carroll Hunter

William Carroll Hunter, known affectionately as Carroll, passed away peacefully at home on September 1, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 89. Born on April 7, 1936, in Henry County, Missouri, Carroll’s life was marked by devotion to his family, a steadfast work ethic, and a deep faith in the Lord.

Carroll’s early years were spent on a farm, which instilled in him a love for the outdoors and hard work. As a young boy, Carroll would grow and sell popcorn to support his family. After graduating from Norris High School, he honorably served in the Marine Corps from 1958 until 1964, demonstrating his commitment to his country. Carroll took great joy in providing for his family through his career. He worked for Sutherland Lumber and as a milkman for Country Club Dairy before starting and owning Hunter Lawn Service for over 50 years, continuing to mow lawns until he was 85.

Deeply faithful, Carroll was actively involved in several churches throughout his life, including Calvary Baptist Church, Nall Avenue Baptist Church, River Church, Life Point Ministries, and Faith Ministries. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, always guiding his actions and interactions with others. 

Carroll was a sports enthusiast, cheering on the St. Louis Browns and Cardinals, the Royals, the Chiefs, and the Mizzou Tigers. He was a voracious reader and life-long learner, always ready to share a fun fact or lesson. Carroll loved sharing in laughter and fun with his family and friends, known for his unique, witty, and sometimes confounding “Hunter Humor.” He leaves behind his loving wife of 66 years, Linda Hunter, his children, Kimberly Miller and Kevin Hunter (Renee), his cherished grandchildren, Chris Miller (Lauren), Jon Miller (Meagan), Andrew Hunter, Beth Baum (Alex), Ben Miller, Sydney Hunter, as well as his great-grandchildren, Anysia, Samarra, Thea, Thad, Carson, Declan, Joanna, Brooklyn, and Emma. Carroll was preceded in death by his brothers, James Kenneth Hunter and Glenn Wilbur Hunter; his sister, Mary Ann Lindauer; and his parents, William Preston Hunter and Viola Pearl Hunter. 

Services to honor Carroll’s life will be held at Abundant Life Church, Administration Building, 410 SW Persels Road, Lee's Summit, MO, on Monday, September 8, 2025. Visitation will occur from 12:30-1:30pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:30pm. A graveside burial will take place at 3:00pm at Longview Funeral Home, 12700 Raytown Road, Kansas City, MO.

 In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to ShelterKC Homeless Ministry. Longview Funeral Home, Kansas City, Missouri, is assisting the family with arrangements. Carroll’s legacy of love, laughter, and service will be remembered by all who knew him.
