W. Bradley Gottschalk, of Concord, a retired Teacher and Coach, died on January 19, 2026 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, following a period of declining health. He was 87.
He was born in Cambridge on October 21, 1938 as the son of the late Winston Malcolm and Ruth (Bradley) Gottschalk. He grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School with the class of 1956. While working on his undergraduate degree at Rider University, Brad enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany prior to being discharged. Later, he earned a master's in history from Boston University.
At an early age, Brad developed a passion for sports. It was not just a hobby or an activity, but rather, a way of life, a way for him to connect with others. From playing in neighborhood games, becoming Tri-Captain of his high school football team, running track and rooting for favorite teams, he found immense joy and made countless memories.
Brad was dedicated to his students and players, as both a beloved Educator and admired Coach. He taught at Westford Academy before joining Littleton Public Schools for 22 years. He completed his career at Bridgton Academy in Maine. In recognition of Brad's steady presence, mentorship and leadership as Coach, he was inducted into the Massachusetts Football Hall of Fame.
For many years, Brad cherished his time spent on Marco Island, Florida, a highlight of his later life. Brad was a people person. He always enjoyed a good conversation. His positive attitude, selfless spirit and approachable nature made others feel welcome in his presence.
He leaves behind his life partner, MaryEsther "Meg" (Brock) Gottschalk and their three daughters, Lynda Glavin and her husband Bill, Wendy Gottschalk and Laura Gottschalk, along with his grandchildren, Katy Moss, Billy Glavin, Heather Yetman, Aly Thomas, Charlie Amaral, Natassia Fisher, Zachary Amaral, Hayes Amaral, Ellie Gottschalk and Harrison Gottschalk, as well as a dozen great grandchildren. Brad was the brother of Patti Kepner and the brother-in-law of Ginny Hamblet. In addition, he is survived by a step-daughter, Amity and her daughter, Adalena.
Family and friends will gather for Brad's funeral service on Sunday, February 1st beginning at 11:30 am in the Farrar Chapel of the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. Burial with U.S. Army military honors will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
