Waleen Peterson Simon

Waleen Peterson Simon, 92, passed away peacefully in her home on September 28, 2025.
Waleen was born in Brigham City, Utah, September 14, 1933 to parents Wallace Benjamin Peterson and Helen Mabel Strand. Raised in Lincoln, Idaho, she attended Ammon High School where she was active in the theater and music departments sharing her love of playing the piano. Later at Idaho State College she majored in Math and Music and easily found employment in the growing computer industry in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
It was there she met Theodore Simon. On their first date he declared he would marry her. He followed up on that promise March 24, 1956 and together they built a beautiful life, creating homes in New Mexico, Idaho, Minnesota, Wyoming, and Arizona.
Waleen cherished a hiatus from the work force for the opportunity to be home with her five children: Sherrie Linn, Scott Alan, Kathleen Marie, Curtis Dean, and Bradley Todd. She later returned as a software engineer, excelling in a career she found challenging and rewarding.
She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and found joy in serving in her various callings. Her life was filled with countless acts of kindness as she loved and served those around her. Later in life she enjoyed the blessing of sharing her home with full-time missionaries serving in the Phoenix area.
Waleen is survived by her five children, thirteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She is reunited with her heavenly family including her loving husband; parents; brothers, Bob, Winn, and Cecil; and sisters, Selena and Helen Marie.
Viewing will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 325 W Coral Gables in Phoenix at 9:00am followed by funeral services at 10:00am. https://vimeo.com/1126514034?share=copy
Interment will be October 13, 2025 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
