Wallace Fuchs Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Seals Funeral Home - Fortville on Sep. 24, 2024.
Wallace Sherman Fuchs passed away quietly on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was 90 years old.
Wallace Sherman (he was called Wally by some, and Sherman by others) was born April 18, 1934 in a farmhouse in Hancock County, Kentucky, near Hawesville to Wallace Earl and Bernice (Adkins) Fuchs. He was the oldest of two children, the younger child being his brother Preston. Wallace Sherman married Sadie Mae Brandle on October 30, 1954, in Hawesville, Kentucky. Wallace Sherman and Sadie Mae had three children: Vickie (Bill) Thompson, Michael (Jody), and Denise (Tom) Kirby. He was a former member of the Fortville Baptist Church. He was an avid fan of Cincinnati Reds baseball, Indiana Fever Basketball, Indiana Pacer basketball.
Wallace Sherman and his brother worked on the farm as they grew up, but at age 17, Wallace Sherman travelled from Hawesville to Indianapolis on the promise of good paying jobs in Indianapolis. He landed a job at Indiana Gear Works, a Buehler Corporation, and was trained to be a machinist making gear parts for use in Sikorsky helicopters for the military. Despite the good job, Wallace Sherman travelled home every weekend mostly because a young farm girl had caught his interest.
While still working for Indiana Gear, Wallace Sherman also started working a second job at Dickie and Son, a machine shop in Indianapolis. He eventually retired from Indiana Gear but continued working for Dickie and Son. Once he retired from Dickie and Son, he enjoyed being a door-greeter at Meijer in Fishers for 14 years.
Wallace Sherman had six grandchildren: Kyle (Nikki) Thompson and Blake (Ashley) Thompson; Samantha (Luke) Wiseman and Adam Fuchs; April (Adam) Lemmon and Alissa (Patrick) Hankee. He also had 12 great-grandchildren: Tucker Thompson; Dean, Glen, and Sara Thompson; Addison and Tori Wiseman; Elijah, Ressie, Nellie, and Winnie Lemmon; Kirby and Brendan Hankee.
Wallace Sherman was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Mae, his son Michael, and his brother Preston.
A memorial celebration of life is planned for Saturday, October 5th, 1:00PM to 3:00PM with a memorial service at 3:00PM. The service will take place at the home of Tom and Denise Kirby, 8864 North 200 West, Fortville.
