Wallace Messer: A Life Honored and Remembered

Wallace Messer, a pillar in both his community and profession, passed away peacefully at Spicewood Cottages on November 19, 2023. Born on September 17, 1935, Wallace was a lifelong resident of Haywood County, where he touched the lives of countless individuals.

Professionally, Wallace was the face of Dickson Auto Parts for over 50 years and held the position of manager. His dedication and commitment to excellence made him not only a trusted figure at Dickson Auto Parts but also within the wider community. Wallace's knowledge of auto parts was unparalleled, and his expertise ensured that both professionals and customers were always well-served.  Beyond his career achievements, Wallace cultivated a passion for bear hunting that earned him recognition by the N.C. Bear Hunters Association. He ventured across Western North Carolina, from the mountains to the coast, as well as Michigan in pursuit of this beloved pastime. Wallace's expeditions were marked by camaraderie and adventure, creating memories that will be cherished by his fellow hunters for generations to come.

Wallace's character was equally reflected in his personal life. He was a devoted family man who never missed an opportunity to support his children's endeavors. Whether it was cheering them on at Little League or football games or proudly attending his son's horse shows, he could always be found on the sidelines with unwavering love and enthusiasm. Additionally, Wallace and his beloved wife Ada would sit on their porch daily, extending warm greetings to friends and family who came their way.  Wallace served on the Waynesville Recreation Board, working diligently to enhance recreational opportunities for the local community. His commitment to making his hometown a better place marked him as an exceptional individual.

Wallace Messer was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Virginia Dare Rathbone Messer, his daughter Pamela June Stephenson, and his brother Howard Messer. He leaves behind a legacy that will be carried forward by his surviving family and friends who will honor and cherish his memory.

At the center of it all was Ada Messer, Wallace's devoted wife of 70 years. Their love was an inspiring testament to commitment and loyalty, serving as a shining example for all who knew them. Wallace is also survived by his two sons: Greg Messer and his wife Lee of Waynesville and Randy Messer and his wife Marlo of Clyde. His children were a source of immense pride for him, embodying the values he held dear.

Wallace Messer's siblings include three sisters: Marlene Ferguson and her husband Johnny Bruce of Clyde, Sally Louise Dennison and her husband Jim of Clyde, and Beverly Jean Messer-Evans of Waynesville; sister-in-law Judy Mathews; five brothers: Robert Messer and his wife Amy of Clyde, Milton Howard Jr. of Clyde, Jerry Messer and his wife Debbie of Clyde, Ralph Winford Messer of Clyde, Clifford Messer of Waynesville; his uncle Ralph Messer and aunt Gertie Fullbright. The bonds shared with each sibling were strong, cemented by shared memories that will live on forever.  Wallace's life was further enriched by the presence of two grandchildren: Catherine Messer Smith (Ian) and Lillian Ruth Messer. Their joy brought immense happiness to him throughout their lives. Wallace was also blessed with one great-grandchild, Ruthie Virginia. Additionally, he leaves behind several beloved nieces and nephews.
