Walt Asp Obituary

Walt Asp, a native of Springfield, Mass., passed peacefully in Dublin, Ohio on June 12, 2025, His life, which he would have described as "hunky dory," was marked with a dry wit, a gentle kindness and an uncanny ability to find joy in simple pleasures.

Although he majored in econ at Brown University, Walt was a clever wordsmith and superb bridge player. His golf game? Not so much, but he would have given himself an "attaboy" for his efforts. Thanks to his decades-long career with General Electric, he moved his family from New York to Tennessee and then Indiana (Fort Wayne) where he lived for almost 40 years.

He was a devoted family man and an expert in fun-whether that meant hauling a giant stuffed lion through Busch Gardens for his young daughters or launching the family's love affair with Volvos during a self-navigated trip to Sweden. He loved a well-poured beer, bike outings, family boat rides at Lake James, a great happy hour deal, his grandchildren and granddogs, and a round of golf at Pine Valley.

He's survived by his wife Sue Asp; daughters Karen Asp (Chris Pataluch) and Wendy Mikola (Chris); and grandchildren Jackson, Claire and Logan Mikola.

If Walt were here today, he'd greet you with his epic smile and a favorite question: Would you like a snort (aka drink)? We hope you'll say yes, as we think it's a fitting way to honor him.

If you'd like to make a donation in Walt's honor, please consider Humane Fort Wayne or Alzheimer's Association Central Ohio Chapter. The family will be holding a small private celebration for him.

So sorry for your loss. We could always count on Walt & Sue to bring their game to Covenant's volleyball matches - themselves and the net. Walt, in his all-white, truly was all white in his demeanor. Sue, in her stylish warmup suits, set the tone. So glad to have played alongside them. I saw them smiling and sort of frolicking amongst the flowers near the Arabian statue not so long ago. Their compatibility was unwavering.
