Walter W. Barteld

Walter W. Barteld, 91, of Wilkes-Barre passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. He was born in Wilkes-Barre a son of the late Walter and Jennie Barteld. A graduate of Coughlin High School he enlisted in the Navy and honorably served for twenty years. Following his discharge he was employed at the Tobyhanna Army Depot and later for the PA State Harness Racing Commission at Pocono Downs.

Walter was a member of the East End Primitive Methodist Church where he served on the Trustee Board; Landmark Lodge 442 Free and Accepted Masons; Irem Temple Shriners and its Legion of Honor; a life member of Plains American Legion, Post 558, and was the past district commander of the American Legion.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma (Stephens) Barteld; brother Donald Barteld and son-in-law Ted Kozemko.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Barteld; daughter Pamela Kozemko; granddaughter Corinne Santarelli and her husband Anthony; grandson Jared Kozemko and his wife Cheryl; great grandchildren Madelyn and Mia Santarelli.

The funeral will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. from E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. Services will be conducted by Rev. Marty Garms, Pastor of East End Primitive Methodist Church.
