Walter Lee Bell, age 76 of Gatesville, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville with a reception to follow.
Walter was born on November 3, 1948, to the late Morris and Ama Bell in Houston, Texas. The family soon moved to Gatesville where Walter grew up and attended school, graduating from Gatesville High in 1967.
Walter attended Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University), receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971 and a Master of Arts degree in 1978. Certified in English, theatre arts, and special education, he taught in several public and private schools in Texas. His favorite activity was directing one-act plays for University Interscholastic League (UIL) competitions.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother Wendell and sister-in-law Lynn of Austin. He is also survived by niece Rebecca Bell and nephew Andrew Bell, his wife Whitney and their children Calvin and Lucy, all of Austin.
The family wishes to express its appreciation to caregivers with Ascension Providence Hospital and Providence Hospice-Community and to clergy with St. Alban’s Episcopal Church. Thanks to the many kind people in the Gatesville community, especially Victor Pena and Celeste Drake, for their friendship and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saint Alban’s Episcopal Church, 305 N. 30th St., Waco, Texas 76710, or the charity of your choice.
