Walter Cox

Age: 84

Walter Cox was born in a small town in southern Indiana, to the late Stanley W. Cox and Mary E. (Davis) Cox. He was the oldest of eight children. After graduating high school, he entered the United States Navy in 1961. He was a Sonarman Second Class Petty Officer. Walt was stationed in Long Beach, California and served on two destroyers with cruises to the Philippines, Hawaii and Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1965.

Walt attended Andrews University, Loma Linda University, and the University of Michigan. He earned three masters degrees. He practiced as a general dentist and later as an endodontist for a total of 33 years, retiring in 2009. The first part of his career was spent in Saginaw, Michigan. He later acquired two endodontic practices in South Dakota where he retired from.

Walt and Karen were married in 2004. He had three children. He enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Walt’s hobbies included reading, golfing, motorcycle riding, and being a private pilot.

Walt is survived by his loving wife of 21 years Karen L. (Koch) Cox; his children, Tim (Traci) Cox, Ken (Meish) Cox; his grandchildren, Andrew (Hanna) Burnett, Emily (Layne) Ringstaff, Abby Cox, Maya Cox, Vicky Martinez; and great-grandchildren, Walter and Bram Ringstaff and Ruth Burnett. He is also survived by his siblings, James Cox, Karen (Richard) LaTour, Pauletta (Mike) Johnson, Kathy Samp, Faye Roberts, and Kaye Boyer.

Walt is preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Mary Cox; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda (Mike) Burnett; his brother, John Cox; and his sister-in-law, Nancy Cox.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025 at  First Presbyterian Church, 121 S Harrison St, Saginaw, MI 48602, with Rev. Ted McCulloch officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service on Friday.
