SGM Walter F. Flammond
March 23, 1943-October 30, 2025
Our father, brother, grandpa,great-grandpa and hero Walter Flammond left us on October 30 after years of illness to finally reunite with the love of his life, Carol. He passed peacefully at the VA Veteran's Home in Tucson, where he received excellent care and love from all staff. There will be a visitation at Jensen's Mortuary on November 12 at 9am where those who knew him will share their memories. This will be followed by a full Military Honors Service at 12pm at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
His dad, Walter, and his mother Margaret, preceded him in death as did his brothers Wayne and Ronnie. He is survived by his children Jason, Henry, Christine, Alyson and Michael. His grandchildren are Jennifer, Ashley, Dayna, Darcie, Shannon, Ashley, Zack, Abbey, Molly and Brandon, and was a great-grandfather to many. He also left behind his sisters Bonnie and Phyllis, and his brother George.
Walter was born on Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. He took great pride in his heritage, and was surprised at how many people he met from Rosebud during his life. Because his father was a Civil Servant, Walter had the opportunity to live in France until 1960 with his family.
After graduation from Kankakee High School in Illinois- where he was voted Prom King!-, Walter chose to serve his country in Viet Nam.He volunteered to return for a second time, an amazing act of patriotism and love of country. In 1974 he joined the Army where he served until his retirement in 1994, having achieved the rank of SGM. Being in the military allowed Walter and his family the opportunity to live in and travel to many beautiful places all over the world. After his retirement, Walter and Carol opened a business in Sierra Vista, Frames by Flammond. He spent the next 19 years building relationships and working with the community with a craft he loved.
When Walter's wife passed away in 2015, he battled a time of immense grief, followed by a string of illnesses. Everyone who knew him knows he carried an amazing attitude,a smile on his face and a joke always on his tongue. He refused to let his pain define him, and lived his life in bravery, both in the military and facing his health issues.
While he will be sorely missed, he has finally caught up to his wife and will rest, finally, in peace.
