Mr. Walter Lee Golden, 72, of Columbia, SC., was called home on Monday, April 29, 2024, due to immediate LVAD complications. He was preceded in death by his mom and dad, Mr. Walter William (Hank) and Colleen Golden; his second mom and dad, in-laws, William Kitchings, Sr., and Minnie Kitchings; as well as his sisters, Brenda and Mamie.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jayne K. Golden, daughter, Misty and wife Alexa, daughter-in-law, Tasha Lovejoy; son, Walter William Jared and wife Lisa; daughter-in-law, Chassity, daughter Kelly and husband Brad; grandchildren, Arrowyn, Shiloh, Monroe, Christopher, Emma, Will, Emmalyn and Kate; sister-in-love, Barbara (Bryan) Evans; brothers-in-love, Rick (Tammy) and Bill Kitchings, Jr.; sisters, Anne, Elaine (Mo), and Linda; and brother, Harry (Frances), and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends that he called family. All of Jared and Misty's friends called him Dad.
He attended First Baptist Church of Columbia when his health allowed. He enjoyed watching and playing golf, grilling, fishing, camping and spending time at the beach. But above all, he enjoyed the time with his wife, children and grandchildren. His laugh was infectious and anyone that knew him loved him. His granddaughter, Arrowyn says, "he made the best grilled cheese in the world." He was an avid Gamecock fan (Football, Baseball, it did not matter), but he still supported (sort of) his wife, Jayne and daughter, Misty for being Clemson fans. He enjoyed a good bonfire with a cold Coors Light and long conversations with his daughter, Misty, wife, Jayne, son, Jared, or anyone who wanted to chat. He was known by his family for being strong, determined, loving and smart. If he could have been on Jeopardy, he probably would have won. He will forever be missed and will forever be in our hearts!
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made for the family to Shives Funeral Home by calling 803-754-6290.
