Walter Hicks, Sr. of Coalgate, Oklahoma passed from this life on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at the age of 60. He was born on Friday, October 23, 1964 in Durant, Oklahoma to Sylvester Avery and Tommy Dene (Mason) Hicks.
He was a longtime resident of Coalgate, Oklahoma and has lived there for 27 years. He was an old cowboy. He may have been stubborn, but he was a big family man that loved his children and grandchildren unconditionally. He would always say "Family first" as a reminder to others of how much his family meant to him.
Walter enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching westerns that starred John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. He also loved to watch football.
He was preceded in death by his parents Sylvester Avery and Tommy Dene (Mason) Hicks; half brother Charles Prough; grandparents Boots and Ella Mason; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Survivors include his children Walter Hicks, Jr. of Madill, Oklahoma, Julia Hicks and husband Clint of Coalgate, Oklahoma, Dorothy Watts of Coalgate, Oklahoma; grandchildren Christopher Lee Morrison, Telena Morrison, Jukya Watts, Laceona Williams, Avery Elizabeth Lee, Adrienne Maelynn Lee, Gracie Faith Lee; sisters Margaret Walker and husband Michael of Shreveport, Louisiana, Sandra Wininger and husband Gene of Tishomingo, Oklahoma; best friends Gene Jordan and wife Melba of Coalgate, Oklahoma, Trent Lofton of Coalgate, Oklahoma as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family and friends.
Cremation services have been selected.
