Walter George Martin Jr., a longtime resident of Kenilworth, passed away after a brief illness, on Monday July 28, 2025, the day before his 88th birthday.
Born in Bayonne, NJ on July 29, 1937, to the late Walter G. Sr. and Malinda (Todd) Martin, Walter retired from SmithKline Beecham, where he was a laboratory technician. He served in the US Army National Guard from 1960-1966. He and his beloved wife, the late Lenore Obst Martin enjoyed gardening, and spending time in Tucson, AZ, and the Southwest. Walter was a member of the Kenilworth Gospel Chapel, serving in the Yonkers, NY Mission, and the Emmaus Prison Ministry.
He is survived by three daughters: Karen Lynn Sherrier and husband James, Lisa Dawn Bibbo (late husband Michael), and Linda Dawn Andes. He is the beloved grandfather of six grandchildren: Kristen (Mario) Furfero, Heather Sherrier, Michael Bibbo, Lauren Bibbo, Nicole (Tyler) Wickkiser, Joseph Andes, and two great grandchildren: Collins Mae, and Lorenzo James.
Walter’s visitation will be from 4:00-8:00PM Thursday July 31st at Gray Memorial Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Avenue, Cranford, where his funeral service will begin at 11:00AM Friday August 1, 2025, followed by burial in Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth.
