Walter Peterson Ordelheide, 99, passed away on September 12,2024, in Denver, Colorado. Born on March 26, 1925, Denver Colorado, Walter embarked on a life marked by dedication to his family, his profession and service to others.
Walter’s academic journey began at Asbury Elementary, followed by Denver South High School. He furthered his education at the University of Denver and Loma Linda College of Medical Evangelist, where he prepared for a distinguished career in medicine.
During World War II, Walter served honorably in the US Navy from August 1943 to March 1946. After his military service he pursued a career in medicine, starting a private practice in LaSalle, Colorado, from 1954 to 1958. His commitment to helping others led him to serve as a missionary doctor in the Far East from 1958 to 1962. Upon returning to the United States, he continued his practice in La Salle until 1975, after which he joined the faculty at Loma Linda University School of Medicine, teaching until his retirement in 1990. Even in retirement, Walter continued to serve, undertaking relief missions in Jamaica, Pakistan and Nepal, and volunteering at the local homeless shelter in Denver.
Walter was a devout member of the Denver South SDA Church. His faith and fellowship were integral parts of his life. An avid golfer and skilled home remodeler, Walter also enjoyed helping his family with home improvement projects, always ready to lend a hand or share his expertise.
Walter was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. His legacy will be continued by his surviving family including children Carol and husband Dan Meidinger of Idaho; Karl and wife Barbara Ordelheide of Idaho; Karen Ordelheide and husband James Mason of Washington, Kris and wife Karen Ordelheide of Montana; Peter and wife Gretchen Ordelheide of Denver; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a large extended family and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine and grandson Noel Ordelheide.
A Memorial Service will be held on October 19, 2024 at 2:30 pm at the Denver South SDA Church, located at 2675 S. Downing St, Denver, CO 80210.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Walter's memory to Mile High Academy, 1733 Dad Clark Drive, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126.
