Walter Payton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Paradise Funeral Home - Dallas on Oct. 17, 2025.
Walter Dewayne Payton 55 our beloved son, brother, uncle, husband, family, and friend was called home to be with the Lord on October 13, 2025.

Walter was preceded in death by his father Walter L. Payton, March of 1994 and his brother, Tavaries D. Brown, May of 1991. Walter is survived and forever loved and cherished by his mother, Emma L. Brown, sisters, Brenda and Alicia Brown, nieces, Jasmine Winters and Janiya Graham, a devoted ex-wife, Gail Payton along with many other family and friends who will forever embrace the memories that he left in our hearts.

Walter Dewayne Payton was the oldest of four siblings. Walter graduated from James Madison High School, class of 1991 where he was very passionate about music and was a bass drum player in the percussion section of the "Fresh Ones" marching band.

After which he started his CDL training at Steven's Transport. From that moment he knew the open road was where he belonged. This truck wasn't just a vehicle it was a second home and testament to his dedication. Operating under his trucker handle "GHOST", he was more than just a truck driver, he was a road warrior and a true professional who took immense pride in his profession. With every mile he drove he lived life to the fullest.

In addition to trucking, Walter loved the restaurant business. New Orleans Seafood Company was his heart. Opening several restaurants, he always wanted to create a welcoming space, where everyone who walked through the door felt like a friend. He loved to hire and mentor those who just needed a chance. He taught us not to be afraid to take a risk to acquire your dreams.

Our Walter Dewayne Payton will forever be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His love of family and infectious laugh left an indelible mark on everyone he met. While we are heartbroken by his sudden passing, we take comfort in knowing that his love, kindness, and memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends. We rest assure knowing that he has pain no more. He was and always will be deeply loved, eternally cherished, and never forgotten. We carry his memory with us until we meet again.
