Walter Russell passed away on Thursday evening, June 15, 2023. He was born April 19, 1941, in Hoosick Falls, NY to the late Ellis Austin and Nedra Eddy Russell. He graduated from Hoosick Falls High School in 1958.

He worked as a Systems Analyst for Ben-mont in Vermont, International Paper Company in New York and Alabama, and RJ Reynolds in Winston-Salem, N.C. He retired from RJR in 2003. In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his half-brother, Harold Russell, his adopted mother Gladys Doub, and his son, Ellis Russell. Walter loved to spend time with his family, friends, "special" neighbors and his dog, Jax. He was a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church.

Surviving to treasure his memory are his devoted wife, Martha Russell, daughter Anne Russell Mathis (husband Donnie) of East Bend, N.C., son Kirk Russell (wife Marta) of Littleton, CO, and his special cousin, Lynne MacNeil.

His surviving grandchildren are Kathryn Varner (RJ Boone), Shane Varner (wife Sabrina), Twila Mathis (David Tyler), Maigan Miller, Sarah Russell, Mia Russell and Karlie Russell. His great-grandchildren are Reagan Quillin, Russell Wright, Levi Miller, and Ariella Tyler. Thank you to all of the doctors, nurses and medical staff that have taken exceptional care of Walter over the last several years. There will be a celebration of life later. In lieu of flowers, make donations in his honor to Trellis Support Care in Winston-Salem, American Heart Association or Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church building fund.
