SLAUGHTER, Mr. Walter Lee - Age 98, passed away Monday, July 21, 2025 at Brennen Community Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Martez Warren Sr. officiating, Family and friends will assemble at the Chapel 10:00 AM. Mr. Slaughter will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home. Public visitation will be during family hour only. Mr. Slaughter was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army. Mr. Walter Lee Slaughter was born July 11, 1927, in Union, Mississippi, the son of Dane Slaughter and Corene McCune. Mr. Slaughter was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church and the father of every son who came across his path. Walter & Lucy moved up to Flint, Michigan in the early 1950's to find a career with General Motors Corporation (AC Delco/Delphi) where he worked and retired after 40 years of service. Prior to moving to Flint, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served in World War II & the Korean War. Once they adapted to living in the North, they raised a family in Floral Park one of the first neighborhoods where black families were able to become homeowners. After his retirement he would go on to be the Commander of Post 3791 Veterans of Foreign Wars where he served multiple terms. His hobbies included hanging out at McDonalds with his friends, walking daily at the mall, and spending time exercising and communicating with the other Seniors at the Brennan Center. Mr. Walter Lee Slaughter leaves to cherish his memory: son, Rod (Nedra) Slaughter of Grand Blanc, MI; 3 grandchildren, Chanel Slaughter of Canton, MI, Rasheeda Blount and Natasha Simpson; 3 great-grandchildren, Rashaun Blount, Bralyn Simpson and Brooklyn Vaughn, all of Flint; god-son, Joe Glenn; god-daughter, Jackie (Charles )Williams; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Evelyn Thomas, John and Antoinette Hardy, Joaquin (Jameka) Sharp, and Natelete Hill. Mr. Slaughter was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Slaughter; parents, Dane Slaughter and Corene McCune; sister, Frances Slaughter; brothers, JD Slaughter and Barney Slaughter; nieces and nephews. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Martez and Lady Warren, Church Without Walls family, Nessandra Washington (caretaker) and Dr. Jitendra Katneni
