Walter Smiley Obituary
ALBANY - Walter Gauthier Smiley, 78, passed away on March 11, 2025, in Albany, N.Y., at the Albany Stratton VA CLC (Community Living Center). He was born on May 4, 1946, in Belzoni Miss., to John and Addie Smiley. Walter was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in Chicago, Ill., on May 15, 1971. For 40 years, he was a member of the Schenectady North congregation.
Walter is survived by his son, Walter Douglas Smiley, and wife, Michelle; grandsons, Tyrell France and Andrew Smiley; great-granddaughters, Amelia and Amoura France; his son, Gaelen Smiley; and granddaughter, Tiara Janell Smiley; his daughter, Mavis Maloney, and husband, Tom.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication that will be cherished by his many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Dolores J. Smiley, also a dedicated servant of Jehovah; and several close family members including, his sister, Ann Davis; and his brothers, Edgar and Oscar Smiley; as well as his niece, Angela Davis.
A special thanks is extended to the CLC staff, doctors, and dialysis team at the Albany Stratton VA who have supported Walter in his healthcare and life over these many years.
A service to honor Walter's life will be held at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany, N.Y., on March 19, 2025. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., followed by a discourse from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. Deepest Condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Walter Smiley. I had the honor of working with his son Gaelen who was a pleasure to be around which I am sure has a direct correlation to the kind of man his father was. I am sure he leaves behind countless great memories which will live forever in the hearts of his friends and family. Rest In Peace Walter.
