Walter Joseph "Joe" Spear, age 68 of Lafayette, died at his residence on Monday, December 24, 2007, he had been in ill health for many years. Born in Brookston, IN on December 9, 1939 to the late Thomas E. and Lenora Kirts Spear, he had resided in Lafayette for several years. He married Linda Walton on March 26, 2000 in Delphi, IN and she survives. Following graduation from Brookston high School, Mr. Spear worked for Spear's Soil Service, a family business. Later, he worked at Tate and Lyle for 30 years. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching sports, taking country cruises and playing his play station, he also enjoyed listening to blue grass music. Surviving with his wife are his two children, a son, Joseph "Bub" Spear of Brookston and a daughter, Deena Joe Spear of Lafayette, four step-children, Bobby Dicks of North Carolina, Cynthia Maxwell (husband, Rodney) of Camden, IN, Teresa Durbin of Lafayette, and Tina Ragan of Camden, his step-mother, Mary Margaret Spear of Brookston, three brothers, Tom Spear (wife, Sandy) of Lafayette, Hal Spear (wife, Pat) of Arizona, Jack Spear (wife, MaryLou) of Rossville, and one sister, Wendy Fogleman (husband, Mike) of West Lafayette. Visitation from 4-8 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2007 at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Service at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Saturday. Dr. Leland McReynolds officiating. Interment at EUB Cemetery in Colburn. Three grandchildren and seven step grandchildren also survive. Preceded in death by a sister, Norma Jean Spear and one step great granddaughter, Kayden James.
