Walter James Svabek, known affectionately as Jim to his friends and family, personified hard work and passion for life and love. Born on October 31, 1941, in Chicago, IL, Jim's journey was one marked with laughter, love, and faith. He joined our Lord peacefully on February 9, 2025, in Bradenton, FL, leaving behind a legacy of joy and kindness. After moving to Florida as a teenager, Jim attended Bishop Barry High School, where he laid the foundation for a life of service and commitment. As one of Barry High School's star football players, he met his forever love, Carol. He went on to start his career as a Golf Course Superintendent that spanned over 45 years with several courses in Florida and ultimately at Bradenton Country Club. He took pride in his work on the course and formed life-long friendships with the people he worked with. Jim's work ethic and passion was a reflection of his dedication and commitment to lifting everything and everyone he came in contact with to heights never-before seen. While he took pride in his career, family was the cornerstone of Jim's world. His beloved wife, Carol was his partner in every aspect, sharing in the joys and challenges of marriage for over 62 years. Similar to his approach to life, his marriage was one of passion, integrity and love. Together, they raised three beautiful children, Steven, Michael, and Karen, who in turn blessed Jim and Carol with two grandchildren, Dallas and Molly. When Jim wasn't tending to the beautiful green grass of the country club or performing his magic on the BBQ pit, he was playing golf, strumming his guitar or catching his next big fish. However, he most enjoyed his time crisscrossing the country on family vacations with Carol and his "kiddos" or simply sitting with Carol on their favorite bench on the sands of Bradenton Beach. He made the most of his spare time and did it all with a sense of adventure and a smile on his face. Jim's faith in God was unparalleled and an inspiration to everyone around him. He spent much of his time in fellowship, volunteering and spreading the word of God. Jim's faith allowed him to get the most out of his time here on Earth and will forever be watching over and guiding us all. As he would often say when loved ones left the room, if we listen closely, we can hear him say as he sits next to our Lord, "I'll be here!" As we celebrate the life of Walter James "Jim" Svabek, may we all remember his joy, warmth and passion for life and love as we continue to live in his legacy.
