Wally was born on December 26, 1962 in Fort Bragg, California, the son of Rudolph and Beverly (Murry) Swanson. He was raised in Saum, Minnesota and attended Kelliher High School. He spent a year working at a ranch in Washington State and 3 years in Leonard, Minnesota. He moved back to the Kelliher area in 1984 and has resided there since. Wally was united in marriage to Angela L. Albrecht on April 27, 1985 in Kelliher. Wally had many different jobs in his youth ranging from wildfire fighting, logging, drywall installation, sawmill work, ranch hand and farming. Most people knew him by his last 20 years at the transfer station in Blackduck. He enjoyed farming, logging, building various things, animals and nature. His favorite passion was to be of service to others in any way possible. Wally always did his best to serve the Lord and provide for his family. He believed in treating all things with kindness, compassion, love and respect. He was a man of few words in the public, maybe even at times a bit shy. But he always thought of others before himself. He loved his family and friends.
Wally is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Angela Swanson of Kelliher, MN; 2 sons, Christopher Swanson of Kelliher and Charles (Nicole Gram) Swanson of Grasston, MN; 2 daughters, Jennifer and Renae Swanson, both of Kelliher; 2 sisters, Linda (Dan) Volk of Aitken, MN and Becky Swanson of Mora, MN; 5 brothers, Tim (Sherry) Swanson of Blackduck, MN, Pete (Kelly) Swanson of Mora, MN, Randy Swanson of Mora, MN, Brian (Cindy) Swanson of Mora, MN and Bruce (Ag) Swanson of Kelliher, MN; & numerous nieces, nephews, friends, loved ones and community members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Beverly and Rudolp Swanson; a brother, Michael Swanson; and a sister, Mary Swanson.
