Walter "Walt" McKinney Jr., 84, of Washington, Indiana passed away surrounded by his family on June 20, 2025 at his residence. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 13, 1941, to his biological parents Walter and Pauline (Macy) McKinney and raised by Leslie and Lera Sheets, who he loved dearly. Walt was a graduate of Franklin High School's 1960 class. Following his graduation, Walt proudly served his country in the United States Army. He married the love of his life Donna Ray on May 17, 1969. Walt worked for Indianapolis Power and Light for 25 years before retiring to work for Superwash and continued by working for Williams Brothers as a medication driver. He was a former President of the Dogwood Bass Master Club. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, riding his Harley, and tending his tomato garden. Walt will be deeply missed by all.
He is preceded in death by his biological parents Walter and Pauline McKinney; adoptive parents Leslie and Lera Sheets; grandson Zackary McKinney; siblings Ralph (Norma) Sheets, Iris (Bill) Marler and Bob (Marjorie) Sheets.
Walt is survived by his wife, of 56 years, Donna McKinney; sons Kevin (Sarah) McKinney, Kyle (Becky) McKinney, Kerry (Colleen) McKinney; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and numerous friends.
Goodwin-Sievers is honored to be entrusted with the care of Mr. McKinney. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2025, from 1 pm to 3 pm at 2020 State Street. A Celebration of Life will begin promptly at 3 pm.
