Wanda Mae Grom, age 72, of Sheldon, IA, died Friday, November 29, 2024, at her residence under hospice care surrounded by her loved ones.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 2nd with the family present from 5:30-7:30 PM at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center with Rev. Jesse Walho officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Greenwood Cemetery in Matlock, Iowa.
Wanda Mae Grom was born March 27, 1952, in Sioux Center, IA, the daughter of William and Margaret (Bloemendaal) Roghair. She was raised in Sioux Center and attended the Christian Grade School and graduated from Sioux Center High School in 1971. She continued her education at Northwest Community College in Sheldon, IA.
Wanda was united in marriage to Gary M. Grom on June 25, 1974. Together they lived several places through the years, until moving to Matlock, IA in 1997.
On August 12, 2005, Wanda’s husband Gary died. Wanda continued living in Matlock until moving to Sheldon, IA in 2010.
Wanda worked at Village Northwest Unlimited and the Christian Retirement Home most recently, both in Sheldon. She enjoyed reading, fishing and flower gardening. As a family they were blessed with several fishing trips to Minnesota. Most of all, Wanda cherished time with her family and attending her grandchildren’s activities was very important to her.
Wanda is survived by: her three children, Michelle (TJ) Janke of Alexandria, MN, Tamara Van Der Brink, and Donny Grom, both of Sheldon, IA; eight grandchildren: Autumn (Aaron) Hayenga, April Van Der Brink, Michael Van Der Brink, Ashlyn Van Der Brink, Arissa Van Der Brink, all of Tamara Van Der Brink; Tamara Thomsen, Megan Thomsen, and Jordan Tabor of Michelle Janke; she also had an honorary daughter, Penny (Mike) Segelke and their children Dyllon and Summer of Hospers, IA; she is also survived by five siblings, Sandi (Doug) Mallette of S. Sioux City, NE, Craig Roghair of Mankato, MN, Dave (Donna) Roghair of Sioux Center, IA, Shelli (Scott) Kissinger of Ontario, CA; and Heidi Roghair of S. Sioux City, NE; along with several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Margaret Roghair; infant daughter, Sonia Grom; a son, Jeremiah Grom; and her husband of 31 years, Gary M. Grom.
