Wanda Hames Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Doak-Howell Funeral Home on Mar. 30, 2026.
Wanda Ruth Hames, age 77, of Petersburg, TN, passed from this life on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.

Wanda was born on February 4, 1949, in Shelbyville, TN, to the late Cecil White King and Velma Ruth Moore King. She attended Pleasant Grove School and Petersburg High School, where she met the love of her life, Larry Hames. They shared 60 years of marriage together.

Throughout her working years, Wanda was employed with Genesco, Petersburg Manufacturing, worked as a seamstress, and later joined National Pen until her retirement in 2014.

Wanda's faith was a guiding part of her life. She began attending Richmond Church of Christ-now Lone Oak Church of Christ-at a young age and was currently an active member of Unionville Church of Christ.

If you knew Wanda, your life was likely touched by her gift of encouragement and her kind, compassionate heart. She served her church and community faithfully, sharing her love through handwritten cards, thoughtful notes, and visits with friends and family.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 60 years, Larry Hames; children, Melonie (Tim) Pack of Murfreesboro, TN, Wayne (Sonya) Hames of Lewisburg, TN, and Cecil (Candy) Hames of Chapel Hill, TN; grandchildren, Jared, Ashton, Jordan, Joseph, Damian, Ella Grace, and Carter and four great grandchildren.

Along with her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her son, Jeffery Hames, and her brothers, Fred King, Paul Ray King, Frank King, and Donald King.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff at Tennessee Oncology and Community Care of Rutherford County for their compassionate care.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aril 1, 2026, in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Ray King, Jason King, Jerrad Pack and Jordan Pack officiating. Burial will follow at Talley Cemetery in Petersburg.

Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Tuesday evening, March 31, 2026, at the funeral home.
