Wanda Lee Wilson Hemmelgarn, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025, in Blacksburg, VA, at the age of 86. Born on August 16, 1939, in Montgomery, OH, she was a daughter of Warren Wilson and Mary Delight Windom. Wanda's life was a testament to her strength, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family.

Wanda's journey through life was marked by her love for her family. She was a devoted mother to her daughters, April Shelton, Kelly Shelton (Tammy Lovejoy), Tracy Alfaro (Armando), Lisa Collins, and Leslie Shelton. She also embraced her role as a stepmother to Steve Hemmelgarn (Ruth Ann), Michelle Conley (Chris), Heather, and Heidi. Her grandchildren, Jason Burgess, Justin Burgess (Tina), Seth Hawkins, Joseph Burgess (Nickie Lawson), Kassie Westia (Michael), Chelsie Shell (Sam), Jordan Alfaro (Elizabeth), Matthew Messer, Ashley Miller (Aaron), and Kristin Clemmons (Paul), brought her immense joy and pride; in addition to her many great-grandchildren and other precious family members.

Wanda's legacy is carried on by her loving family, who will miss her deeply. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Hemmelgarn, her precious daughter, Christine Elaine Hawkins, her son-in-law, Bert Collins, and her sister, Shirley Mae Thompson.

For 35 years, Wanda worked as a dog groomer, a profession that allowed her to combine her love for animals with her entrepreneurial spirit. Her clients often remarked on her gentle touch and the meticulous care she showed to their furry companions.

Outside of work, Wanda was an accomplished homemaker, known for her exceptional sewing skills and her passion for riding horses. She found great satisfaction in making sure her family was well taken care of, creating a warm and loving home that was the heart of many cherished family gatherings. Her hands were rarely still, as she was always immersed in a project, whether it was crafting a beautiful garment or preparing a family feast.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. A guestbook is available to send condolences to the family by visiting www.kendallfuneralhome.com. The staff of Kendall Funeral Home are honored to serve the Hemmelgarn family.
