E. Hemmelgarn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Aug. 27, 2025.
Edith Mildred Hemmelgarn, 95, of East Bethel, MN passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025 at Cedar Creek Senior Living.

She was born June 3, 1930 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Robert and Edith (Earsley) Macy.

Mildred and Wally Hemmelgarn were married and started their life in Clear Lake, MN in 1948. From there, they moved to the cities. In 1960 they moved to the farm in East Bethel, with seven children and were blessed with two more sons. Going to church was a very important part of their lives. Her rosary was always close by.

Mildred was a hard-working woman who loved to tell people "I have nine kids!"

Mildred worked a few jobs in her lifetime including Carlos Avery Nursery, Control Data, and the Arsenal. She finished her working career of 30 some years at Nabisco Cream of Wheat. Her favorite was driving the forklift, among other jobs there. She stayed working as long as she could, they finally closed the plant, so she had no choice but to retire at age 72.

Loved her polka music and was quite the dancer! Enjoyed Bingo, was an avid Tiger Woods fan and started golfing at age 72. She golfed in a women's league at Grandy Nine and loved to golf in our family fun 4th of July golf tournament in Bigfork every year.

She also loved to sew, made clothing, baby doll clothes (dressed several little dolls), knit, crochet, embroider and quilt - made enough for all the kids and grandkids to get one. (Plus, many more!) Donated many of her projects to churches and such. She also proudly donated 9 gallons of blood over her lifetime.

Another favorite thing she loved was mowing her yard with her JD tractor; she was meticulous with her lawn and flowers.

A major accomplishment for Mildred at the age of 88, was when she received her High School Diploma at the Cambridge High School Graduation Ceremony, August 2, 2018. Not only was she proud, but her family was proud for her.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Wally in January 1981; two daughters - infant Linda Hemmelgarn and Judy Jones; son-in-law Jerry Weissman; granddaughters Baby Girl Hass and Julie Jones; grandsons Rickie & Randy Jones and Travis & Jared Hemmelgarn; great grandson Parker Peterson; and several brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children Edie Hemmelgarn of Andover, Ed (Bonnie) Hemmelgarn of Crown, (Rick Jones) of East Bethel, Nancy (Rick) Hass of Crown, Rick (Wendy) Hemmelgarn of Alexandria, Susie (Dean) Whittlef of Crown, Joanie (Steve) Smith of Knife Lake Mora, Steve (Shelly) Hemmelgarn of Marcell, Scott (Jen) Hemmelgarn of East Bethel; 25 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandkids; siblings Marge, Mark, Mary, Michelle and Robyn, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial 11AM, Thursday, September 4, 2025 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Isanti. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Anthony.
