Wanda Carol Lawson

Wanda Carol Lawson, age 79, of Swords Creek, Virginia, returned to her heavenly home on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

She was born in Richlands, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Paul Richardson and Lillian Short Richardson Lester.

Her radiant smile would light up any room she entered, and she left a positive imprint on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She liked to draw, sing, and stay abreast of the latest home improvement styles. She was known to have a green thumb, and she loved various potted exotic plants. She enjoyed reading historical novels and studying Appalachian history, especially Hatfield and McCoy stories. She was an avid researcher of her family's genealogy. .

Wanda was a devout Christian and an active member of Raven Assembly of God since 1982. She taught Sunday School for more than 30 years. She was a seamstress by trade, a house cleaner and nanny, but above all, Wanda loved nothing more than her role as a mother and a grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and she cherished all of the wonderful memories they had together.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant twin sister, Juanita Richardson.

She leaves behind her Devoted Husband of 62 years, Dennis Wayne Lawson, Sr.

Daughter: Kathy Alley and husband, Michael of Cedar Bluff, Virginia

Son: Dennis Lawson, Jr. and wife, Angela of Swords Creek, Virginia

Sister: Beverly Richardson Foleno of Lebanon, Virginia

Grandchildren: Ashley Carey; Tiffeney Feeser and husband, Brett; Rachel Hairston and husband, Troy; Hannah Alley; and Isabel Lawson

Great Grandchildren: Isla Carey; Jonah Carey; Noah Feeser; Oaklyn Feeser; Colter Smith; Kai'yan Hairston; and Naomi Hairston

Funeral services for Wanda Carol Lawson will be conducted Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at 2pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with Rev. Dusty Vandyke officiating. Entombment will follow at the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum in Richlands, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Brett (Bebo) Feeser, Troy Hairston, Jimmy Barrett, Kevin Robinette, Rusty Short, and Hunter Short. Friends may visit with the family from 12pm until 2pm on Tuesday prior to the funeral.
