Wanda Nelson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by E. F. Boyd & Son Funeral Home-89th Chapel - Cleveland on Mar. 18, 2026.
Wanda Diane Nelson, affectionately known as "Diane," was the beloved eldest daughter of Robert and Edith Cecelia Nelson. She was born on December 12, 1950, in Memphis, Tennessee. Her parents relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, in the early nineteen fifties.
Diane attended Glenville High School during her sophomore and junior years before completing her senior year at Shaw High School. While in school, she was actively involved in extracurricular activities, including the Drama Club, Project Club, and the Afro American Club. She graduated from Shaw High School on June 7, 1970.
Throughout her life, Diane remained deeply committed to serving her community and advocating for those in need. From the 1980s through the early 1990s, she volunteered at the East Cleveland Public Library. Her heart for service extended to Huron Road Hospital, where she dedicated over 30 years as a volunteer. In recognition of her faithful commitment, she was honored with a commemorative plaque displayed in the hospital lobby. Diane also volunteered at South Pointe Hospital from January 1995 until February 2019, continuing her lifelong mission of service.
Her dedication to ministry was equally strong. Diane faithfully served as a choir member and usher board member at Church of the Savior. She was also an active member of the United Methodist Women's Organization and a proud participant in the Mental Health Task Force, where she worked to dispel myths surrounding mental illness and support individuals facing mental health challenges.
Throughout the years, Diane received numerous pins, plaques, and certificates in recognition of her unwavering dedication and service. She found joy in listening to music, sharing jokes, writing letters, poetry, keeping up with current events; most of all she enjoyed reading God's word and mailing out cards to loved ones. Her warmth, wit, and giving heart will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.
On Sunday, February 22, 2026 she departed to be with her Lord and Savior. She will truly be missed and forever remembered in our hearts.
