Wanda Fae Walker, 82, of Cross Plains, passed away on November 29, 2025, in Comanche, Texas, at Legacy Estate Long Term Care after a long period of illness, during which she was lovingly cared for by her family at home.

Wanda was born in Hereford, Texas, and grew up in Texline, Texas. She met her husband, Glenard “Skeet” Walker, in Texline when they were just 5 years old. Together they shared 64 years of marriage. They built a life in Cross Plains, raising two rambunctious boys and many family pets, which brought Wanda endless joy.

She was deeply proud of her family and always wanted to know what everyone was doing, often offering help or preparing a home-cooked meal. Wanda’s kitchen was famous for her cornbread, chili, banana pudding, cheesecake, dressing, and egg sandwiches, among many other favorites.

Wanda had a lifelong love of animals, especially cattle, dogs, and the occasional stray cat. She raised countless calves on a bottle, both inside and outside her home, whenever nature required a helping hand. Her gentle way with animals turned even the largest cattle into pets. Family and friends were often amazed when Wanda would clear the cattle pen and calmly load cows into the trailer with ease. One of Wanda’s greatest animal success stories was with her beloved goat, Peggy Sue, who was born a runt but nursed to a long 11-year life under Wanda’s thumb; despite the Vet telling her she would never make it. Wanda’s touch for animals always prevailed.

For many years, Wanda worked alongside Skeet at the dealership in Cross Plains and later at The Movie Store. She also enjoyed her years working at Dairy Queen and Johnson’s Western Store in Cross Plains. She took great pride in serving the community, helping customers choose films, and watching generations of children grow up through the store. After retiring, she enjoyed tending to her animals, watching hummingbirds, loving on her dog Babe, and playing Skip-Bo where she was known to win often.

Known affectionately as “GranGran” or “Granny,” Wanda’s playful spirit and loving nature brought laughter and cherished memories to her family and friends.

Wanda will be laid to rest in a private family cemetery in Cross Plains. She is survived by her husband, Glenard (Skeet) Walker; son Mike Walker and wife Tonja Walker; grandson Heath Walker and wife Donnis Walker; granddaughter Tiffany Walker Fox and husband Michael Fox; granddaughter Jada Lindsey; great-granddaughter Navy Fox; and dear family friend Keith Kelly. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and son.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Cross Plains Cancer Fund or the Cross Plains Volunteer Fire Department. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to LaJeana Hayes-Long, FNP-C; Charles Cooper, PA-C; Dr. Bawduniak; Dr. Donham; the staff at Legacy Estate; and Alpha Omega Hospice for their compassionate care and support. A large thanks to the community of Cross Plains and beyond who called and offered services, prayers, and support; each and every prayer and outreach touched our hearts.
