We lost a beloved mother and grandmother, Wanda Crosswhite Wengel, who passed away peacefully in Knoxville, TN on August 15, 2025. She grew up in Shady Valley, TN, but lived in both Mountain City and Erwin TN. She was married to Floyd Potter of Erwin, TN and Bruno Wengel of Loraine, OH. They are both deceased.
She was a loving wife and mother, always there with a helping hand and understanding. She got the most joy out of spending time with her family. She loved trips with her children and grandchildren such as cruises. Beach trips, and the mountains, especially Grandfather Mountain and Back Bone Rock. She also enjoyed theme parks with the grandchildren like Dollywood and Tweetsie. She also played a mean game of putt putt. She enjoyed her years with Bruno going to Florida in the winter and living on Lake Erie in Ohio in the summer.
She was predeceased by her mother and father, Nellie Harper Crosswhite and Sherman Crosswhite, her brother, J.E. Crosswhite, sister, Opal Crosswhite, sister, Marjorie Horne, sister, Shirley Brown, and daughter, Joyce Wilson.
She leaves behind her daughter, Janice Forrester, grandson, Brian Hopson, grandson, Travis Forrester, and granddaughter, Lori Forrester. She also leaves behind great grandchildren, Jordan Hopson, Cameron Hopson, Carrie Hopson, Destiny Dunn, Tru Dunn, Bree Dunn, Braxton Forrester, Brody Forrester, Alex Castiglia, Isaiah Castigla, and Vera Castiglia. She was also blessed with several great great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 P.M. on Friday, August 22, 2025 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Steven Spencer to officiate. The graveside service and burial will follow the funeral from the Wilson Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family of Wanda has entrusted her care to Mountain City Funeral Home, 224 S. Church Street, Mountain City, TN 37683.
