In Loving Memory of Jean Winders (1932-2026)
Jean Winders, a long-time resident of Socorro, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, at the age of 94. A woman of deep dedication to both her family and her community, Jean's legacy is one of service, adventure, and enduring love.
Born in Amarillo, Texas, on January 10, 1932, Jean moved to Belen, New Mexico, as a child. It was there that she met the love of her life, Ray Winders. The two were wed on August 16, 1949, beginning a beautiful journey that would span 63 years until Ray's passing in 2012.
As Ray's career with Mountain Bell took them across the state-from Socorro to Jal and finally back to Socorro in 1967-Jean remained the heart of the home. Together, they shared a passion for the outdoors, often found traveling the country in their camper or participating in competitive shooting.
Jean also felt a profound calling to care for others. For 23 years, she worked for Title 20 Homecare, where she dedicated herself to looking after the elderly, providing comfort and dignity to those in their later years.
Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray; her sister and three brothers; and her grandson, Van Dewey.
She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Dewey; her son, Mike Winders, and his wife, Sandy; and a large, loving family including five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren (three great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters).
Jean's kindness and her adventurous spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
